Where Do We Go from Here?

Okay, so we admit we aren’t perfect. We admit we don’t have all the answers. We admit that the gospel is still way ahead of our time.

So, where do we go from here?

I think asking that question reveals part of the problem: we have this urge to know all of the details, dissect, organize, figure things out, and put it all in a nice little package.

But isn’t it true that whatever we can neatly define and figure out now is more of a reflection of where we are now than where we can be?

That is, if we take the knowledge, comfort level, and expectations we have now and come up with a concrete plan for the future, then whatever we come up with will only take us as far as we can see.

So when we talk about where we are going next, it’s good to have a few goals in mind, but it’s also necessary to turn that over to God because the plans He has are so much bigger than anything we can imagine.

Maybe we should put a few stepping stones ahead of us to get started, but then trust our future selves to continue forward beyond what we can currently see. Leave the future open for all kinds of unexpected possibilities.

When Abraham was told to leave his country, his family, his family’s gods, and everything that made life comfortable, he went. When he got to his destination, the book of Hebrews tells us that he was still looking for something even better than what God led him to.

God gave him a country, but he knew that there was city built by God Himself out there somewhere, so he kept looking.

God had led us to where we are now, and we can either park our tents, or we can be like Abraham and hope, know, and even expect that God has something even more amazing for us just around the corner!

So where do we go from here? Wherever God leads. Because whatever answer I try to give will pale in comparison to what He can do.
