In G___ We Trust
The most persistent lie in human history is that of redemptive violence. True freedom does not come from returning blow for blow, punch for punch, and bullet for bullet.
John 14:27 (NAS): Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.
The good news of Jesus contain the real seeds of freedom.
At the other end of every bullet is the potential for destruction of someone for whom Christ died, at the explosion of every bomb is the potential for the death of a child of God, and in the path of every act of violence (“justified” or not) is the harm of someone whom God loves.
“In God We Trust” or “In Guns We Trust?”
“Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God” (Psalm 20:7).
As members of the non-violent kingdom of God who beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks, we must lead by example in speaking out against violence of all forms: police brutality, violence towards police, oppression of the poor, persecution of the immigrant, death of the innocent, and the death of the guilty.
All life is sacred.
Jesus forgave the very ones who were crucifying Him, Jesus weeped over Jerusalem - He didn’t celebrate their demise, and Jesus advocated for a non-violent kingdom in which love for all abounds.
