Divine Light (Feb 7-13, 2021)
In Genesis 1, God created light on day 1, but He created the sun, moon, and stars on day 4. This is mirrored in Revelation where John sees a city coming down out of Heaven from God. This city is called the New Jerusalem, and in it is no death, pain, or crying. The New Jerusalem has gates on every side, and those gates are only open during the day. Of course, in this city, there is no such thing as night. In fact, like in Genesis 1, there isn’t a sun, moon, or stars. What creates the daytime then? What is the source of this light? “And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb” (Revelation 21:23). As citizens of this city, we also shine like the sun as Jesus explained in a parable in Matthew 13: “Then the righteous will shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father” (Matthew 13:43). Even when the world around us is dark, we are living in light and invite others to live in the light as well.
