Christmas With Karl
announcing a fun new Advent series
Hello my friends,
I’ve spent the last couple of weeks poring over Karl Barth’s chapter on “The Miracle of Christmas” in Church Dogmatics I.2 (Hendrickson Publishers 2010, p.172). It’s a super intense chapter on the importance of the incarnation and the significance of the virgin birth.
He interacts with several authors on the virgin birth, describes the importance of Jesus being conceived by the Spirit, considers the implications of the virgin birth on the role of men and women in the world, and challenges the reader to consent to the Christmas miracle taking place in their own life.
I’m in the process of recording the videos for this series. My plan is to do one video per page, but since there are 31 pages, I’ll have to double up a few times. They’ll begin posting here on Substack and on YouTube on November 30th, and I’ll post the 26th video on Christmas Day. Each video will average around ten minutes.
While this series may seem a bit daunting, I think you’ll get a lot out of it if you really commit to considering the ideas, and even though we may both disagree with Barth at times, I find his material to be overwhelmingly compelling and worth the work.
Depending on how this goes, I may consider doing other book studies like this in the future. Perhaps there would be space for an interactive Zoom class in the future where we could do a book study together.
Have a great evening,
Daniel

Thanks, Daniel! I'm looking forward to this!
