Begin, Good Work, Finish (Jan 24-30, 2021)
“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6). Paul uses three words deliberately here: began, good work, and perfect (finish). These three words are a deliberate callback to Genesis. “In the beginning…” “It is good…” “By the seventh day, God finished His work…” In alluding to Genesis, Paul was tying in their story to the creation story because in Christ they were a new creation. In the new creation, they were to be servants to one another, not look at outward things, and learn to be content in whatever situation they found themselves. This progression from beginning to completion is a testimony to God’s faithfulness. What He starts, He finishes, and all that He creates is good. Let’s trust in the goodness given to us by God and share it with the world.
