Andrew the Bringer - A Lesson in Gifting

It can be tempting to want the spotlight. Sometimes we want the glory, the prestige, the fame that comes with being the frontman. But not everyone has this gifting, and that is okay.

Think about the apostle Peter.

He's the most outspoken.
He wrote two of our books of the Bible.
He was in Jesus's inner circle.
He gave the first gospel sermon in Acts.
He was a shepherd, an apostle, and a miracle worker.

And yet, Peter wouldn’t even be Peter if it wasn’t for Andrew. Check it out:

One of the two who heard John speak and followed him was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first found his brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated Anointed). He brought Simon to Jesus, who looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You are to be called Cephas” (which is translated Peter).

John 1:40-42

We don’t know much about Andrew. We don’t read his speeches or hear of his many miracles. But what we do know is that he brought Peter to Jesus.

You may be a talented worship leader. You may be a gifted speaker. You may be awesome at serving in some other capacity.

But we all have the potential to be bringers. All it takes is a “We have found the Messiah!”

There’s this episode of The Office where Michael Scott coaches Dwight in giving an acceptance speech for a sales award, an award Michael won two years in a row. Well, Dwight, with a little help from Jim, delivers a speech that has everyone captivated.

Michael gets jealous, so he goes out to the hotel bar and waits. Eventually, Dwight joins him as people pour out of the auditorium. Michael tells him a cheesy story and Dwight loves it. Michael then says to the cameras, “And I entertained Dwight to no end with my bar story, so I captivated the guy who captivated a thousand guys. Can you believe that? A thousand guys.”

We have different talents. Instead of worrying about what everyone else is doing, let’s focus on what we are uniquely equipped to do. Who knows the impact you might have!

Andrew isn’t as well known as Peter, but Peter showed up because Andrew took a chance on him. Be a bringer!
